Gig of the Fortnight: Dirty Projectors
16.09.09 – Whelans – €17.45
Having already played Ireland in March this year, Dirty Projector’s chic status has grown considerably since their last visit to these shores. Currently regarded as the archetypal hipsters’ band, they may well attain further success in the upcoming months. They are especially renowned for their quirky ingenuity, from devoting an entire album to songs based on lead singer Dave Longstreth’s teenage memories of Black Flag’s Damaged to their wonderfully weird, llama-starring video for ‘Stillness is The Move’ – the first single off their highly acclaimed new album, Bitte Orca. Therefore, expect surprises and innovation aplenty from the show, which may prove to be one of the last chances to see the band live before success engulfs them. Almost exactly four years ago to the day, a then little-known band by the name of Arcade Fire played a stunning Irish set and subsequently became huge. Could a similar fate be in store for Dirty Projectors? Watch this space.
